Dr. Kenerly
Dr. J. Lex Kenerly has had the honor and privilege of treating patients in his hometown and surrounding areas for more than two decades. A board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Kenerly specializes in many surgical and nonsurgical treatments of conditions related to the musculoskeletal system. He has continued his medical education extensively through certified medical education courses throughout the country and now operates one of the most state-of-the-art medical and surgical facilities in South Georgia. Dr. Kenerly brings to the table a genuine desire to offer his patients the highest level of Orthopedic care available and feels blessed to be able to work in a Christian environment of professional medical caregivers.
Dr. Kenerly began his orthopedic surgery practice in Jesup, Georgia in 1988. He graduated from Wayne County High School in June 1974. and earned his BS degree in biochemistry from the University of Georgia in June 1978. After graduating from the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine in June 1982 with the M. D. degree, he spent one year at The Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia completing his internship. Dr. Kenerly was then accepted to the orthopedic surgery residency program at the Greenville Hospital System and Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children in Greenville South Carolina. He finished his residency in 1988 and that year began his practice back in his hometown of Jesup, Georgia.

Dr. J. Matthew Valosen joins Bone and Joint Institute of South Georgia (BJISG) after beginning his career as a U.S. Army Orthopaedic Surgeon. He was previously the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgical Services at Winn Army Community Hospital, Ft. Stewart, GA. A board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Valosen brings to BJISG a wealth of experience from his military background in treating sports related and traumatic injuries of musculoskeletal system. He specializes in arthroscopic approaches to most orthopaedic conditions, but also offers joint replacement surgery and many other orthopaedic surgical procedures. He strives to stay on the cutting edge of treatment modalities in the operative and non-operative realms of patient care.
Dr. Valosen was born and raised in Clarksville, PA, a small town south of Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from Jefferson-Morgan High School in 1994. He earned his BA degree in Biology from Washington and Jefferson College in 1998. After graduating from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2003 with his MD degree, he entered his orthopaedic surgery residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Ft. Gordon, GA. He finished his residency in 2008, and proceeded to his first and only duty station of Ft. Stewart, GA. During his military service at Ft. Stewart, Dr. Valosen became the chief of the orthopaedic surgical clinic, was deployed to Iraq where he was awarded the Bronze Star, and implemented many advances in specialty musculoskeletal care for the Army soldier.

For more than a decade, Certified Physician Assistant Scott Rowell has been a tremendous asset to Dr. Kenerly's Orthopaedic Practice. His warm bedside manner and personality have endeared Scott to the hundreds of patients with whom he has served at The Bone and Joint Institute.
He is a graduate of Mercer University and the Medical College of Georgia where he completed his Physician Assistant program in 1998. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and a member of the Georgia Association of Physician Assistants.
In the 12 years that he has worked as Dr. Kenerly's PA, Scott has gained extensive expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of orthopaedic conditions. From fracture management, arthritis of the hip, knee and shoulder, sports injuries and work-related injuries, Scott has proven to be an excellent and competent Orthopaedic Physician's Assistant.
